JAM Project

JAM Project is essentially a super-group made up of a large collection of vocalists. For the past seven years they've released a ton of anime, TV and video game theme songs. These singles are then collected into "best of" albums. With such a large group of musicians involved, it's not surprising that their song styles cover a wide range, from over-the-top rock operas to sappy ballads to feel-good metal attacks. In fact, everything is coated in a thick layer of happy smiley good times and vibrant energy, which makes them a bit hard to take seriously. Then again, it is just a bunch of cartoon music, right?

Judy and Mary

Judy and Mary

Judy and Mary were the quintessential '90s band, and not just because they were only active from 1991 to 2001. Even their 2001 album "Warp" has a typical bouncy, reverby, clear-faced, happy party production that reminds me of The Sugarcubes, or Jellyfish. Their songs follow suit, being mostly made up of innocent, easy-going rock styles. Singer Yuki did some work with Chara and Mean Machine, and has since moved on to a strong solo career. Not surprisingly, Andy Sturmer (from Jellyfish and now Puffy fame) has also worked on Yuki's solo material.
