Halcali is a rap duo, the product of a talent search initiated by the band Rip Slyme. B-girls Haruka and Yukari had never sung or rapped before, but they were a hit and looked the part, which was all that mattered. Since then they've released three albums and several singles, all featuring their upbeat rhymes and dance-oriented songs. They are always very playfully and easygoing, irreverent, but safely so. All of their videos are very well done and usually funny, sometimes featuring elaborate dance numbers worthy of Busby Berkeley productions. Much like Puffy (Ami-Yumi) and The Do-Nuts, they are obviously factory made, but are nevertheless fun to listen to, and that's the point.

I like Halicali (a name play on duo Haruka and Yukari) a lot and their videos have always been good fun to watch. They are definitely more playful than their more straightforward hip-hop rivals the Heartsdale.
The YouTube link seems dead but here's another sample of their music:

Thanks for all the great comments JTM! Yeah, I'll bet there are a lot of dead video links. It seems that there are fewer and fewer Japanese videos on YouTube every day. Sad! I'm looking into something that might fix the situation for the A-Z, but until then I'll just have to try and update the profiles whenever I get the chance. Thanks for checking out the blog! I hope you find some new music you like. ^___^
