P-Model was a band that first appeared in the late 1970's. Fronted and driven by Susumu Hirasawa, they continued to release material as P-Model for 20 years. Along the way they had huge influence in the Japanese techno-punk/pop scene (see Polysics.). The easiest comparison to make would be to Devo, as they have very similar production values and jittery, synth fueled guitar rock songs. However they soon broke from the spazz-punk genre and slowely morphed into more atmospheric styles, eventually becoming a full-on techno/trance band. During P-Model's later days, Hirasawa also produced a massive solo catalog, including soundtracks for various anime shows like Berzerk and Paranoia Agent, as well as Satoshi Kon's films Millennium Actress and, most recently Paprika. P-Model continues to live on, in a way, as Hirasawa has recently released a new album as Kaku P-Model.
