The Peanuts

Twins Ito Emi and Ito Yumi began their singing career as The Peanuts in the late 1950's. Perhaps best known as the singing Mothra twins in various Godzilla movies, they paved the way for similar singing duos like Puffy Ami-Yumi (see below) and Halcali. Their voices are very closely tuned, and they often sing entire songs in unison. While they officially retired in the 70's, there have continued to be re-releases of their work to this day. This may be due to the fact the W, a Morning Musume off-shoot duo, covered some of their songs, bringing The Peanuts back into the minds of a new generation. In fact there is talk of two other Musume sisters, Natsumi and Asami Abe, starring in a new TV drama about the life of the Ito sisters.
