Perhaps best described as a cross between The B-52's and The Sugarcubes, The Plastics were a strange little group that lasted for a very short time in the early '80s. With quirky vocals split between the male and female leads, thin, effected guitars and muted drum-machine beats, they fit squarely withing the early electro-art-rock genre along with P-Model and Yellow Magic Orchestra. Their powerful influence on the Japanese rock scene is made obvious when you take a look at their 1999 tribute album. The contributors read like a who's who of modern weird electro new-wave. Also, The Plastics' Masahide Sakuma was the producer for Judy & Mary, and also worked on Nina, a collaboration between Kate Pierson of the B-52s and Yuki of Judy & Mary.
